Utthan is one of the activities of Gujarat Stree Pragati Mandal Trust.

However, to focus more on the issues of the persons with special needs and the marginalized children of the society, another Trust consisting of like minded individuals has been formed: viz “Utthan Trust”.

• This Utthan trust was formed primarily to further the present day activities of Utthan..
• Utthan has a long waiting list of mentally challenged males and females, but due to lack of space, they cannot be given admission.
• Moreover, learning in basic cooking should form a part of the program and for this purpose, space for a kitchen facility is extremely essential.
• A recreation centre for the trainees is also envisaged..
• A short term residential facility for those trainees whose parents have no other support system .

Thus the space constraints, inclusion of other professional activities such as research in the field of mental disability, and a broader perspective propelled the need of another Trust, Utthan Trust.

The future plan is to acquire new premises under this Trust and provide a plethora of activities for these marginalized sections of the population.

Both these Trusts qualify for IT Exemption under section 80(G) of the IT Act.

Many activities such as art competitions, cultural programs are conducted jointly or under the auspices of organizations such as SWMR ( Society for the Welfare of the Mentally Challenged) and Manav_ Sadhna which works in a big way fro the underprivileged.

Utthan also participates invariably at exhibitions organized by Jagruti Foundation This voluntary agency organizes exhibitions and provides a platform for all agencies working in this field to show case their products.
